Ancient Bitcoin Whale Moves $9,600,000 in BTC at 181,204% Profit in Sudden Awakening
According to a leading website that monitors blockchain data, a long-dormant Bitcoin address ( BTC) is now awake after almost 11 years of inactivity.
BitInfoCharts reports that the address was last active in October 2012. It recently transferred 412 Bitcoin, valued at more than $9.5 million at the time of transfer.
BTC was around $12.50 at the time that the wallet was created in October 2012. This BTC currently has a profit of 181,204% and is valued at $22,663
The Bitcoin was moved to five addresses by the long-deceased address. Two addresses received approximately 177 BTC each while two others received 28.84 BTC each. One received 0.12 BTC. The total fee to cover five multimillion-dollar transactions was $2.84.
The Bitcoin address had previously only recorded four transactions. These transactions were all deposits that occurred between September 28th 2012 and October 1st 2012.
The address has only received trace amounts Bitcoin over the years. Dusting attacks could be attributed to the small amounts of Bitcoin that were sent to the address. Dusting attacks involve sending small amounts of cryptocurrency to an address to various purposes. This could include trying to unmask their identity or stealing data for phishing scams.
Speculation is common when a large, dormant Bitcoin account becomes active. This raises suspicions that it could be Satoshi Nakamoto (the pseudonymous creator and owner of the flagship cryptocurrency whose identity remains unknown) as well as speculation about its whereabouts.
Satoshi Nakamoto’s last online appearance was December 2010 on Bitcoin Talk online forum. According to Sergio Lerner, Satoshi is believed to have hundreds of thousands of BTC.
